Et d’ailleurs c’est dans la toute nouvelle boutique qu’on s’est donné rendez-vous pour un “petit” goûter, il n’y a pas longtemps. En fait, le goûter n’était pas vraiment petit…La part du délicieux carrot cake (qu’on n’a pas réussi à finir à deux) était juste énorme !

By the way, we met at the new Cupcakes and Co place for a little snack not long ago. Actually it wasn’t little at all. We had a huge slice of a delicious Carrot Cake and didn’t even manage to finish it. 

Oui Cupcakes and Co a déménagé à deux pas de la place des Vosges. Mieux placé, plus spacieux, on peut désormais s’asseoir sur une chaise d’écoliers autour d’une des jolies tables retro à l’heure du thé, du gouter ou n’importe quand l’envie vous prend !

Yes Cupcakes and Co moved, like two steps from the Place des Vosges. Better spot, bigger, you can now stop there and sit on a cute schoolboy’s chair around a retro table at tea time or snack time or whenever really.

Il y a 6 ans, j’étais allée aux Baux de Provence avec J et ses parents. J’avais trouvé l’endroit magnifique.

Et la semaine dernière, j’ai eu la chance de faire un petit tour sous le soleil du Sud et d’y retourner. J’y ai découvert ce superbe resto “La Cabro D’Or” ! J’ai pas laissé une seule miette sur l’assiette… Tout était TROP bon. En même temps, le chef est étoilé au guide Michelin donc forcément… Je vous le conseille vivement si vous passez là bas ! Le cadre est sublime et le service impeccable. ça sent bon la Provence là bas !

6 years ago, I went to the Baux de Provence with J and his parents. I thought the place was amazing. And last week, I was lucky enough to go back and do a little tour under the sun of the South. I found this beautiful restaurant called La Cabro D’Or ! I didn’t even leave a crumb… Everything was sooo good ! I mean ok the chef got a star at the Michelin guide, so obviously it was going to be good ! I really recommend you that restaurant if you got the chance to go down there. The landscape is breathtaking and the service was perfect. It smells good like Provence there.

Dilemme pour un dej entre amis. Est-ce qu’on persiste dans l’american food ou est-ce qu’on change pour une fois?  OK guys, on persiste ! Peut-être par envie de se sentir un peu comme aux States…

Ma copine Sandy nous propose donc deux adresses et Chou choisit immédiatement le PDG, sur les conseils de Bageltom. Et c’est une bonne surprise.
Quand on arrive le rez-de-chaussé est blindé, on nous installe donc à l’étage. On est seul pendant un petit quart d’heure mais rapidement ça se remplit de familles venues bruncher ! Nous, on commande les trois “mini” burgers pour tester. Attention, ils ne débordent pas d’ingrédients, mais vous aurez des pickles et des tomates dans votre assiette que vous pourrez rajouter par exemple au burger “nature”.
Ce que j’ai vraiment adoré : le pain ! Un vrai délice, sincèrement + La gentillesse et l’humour du proprio + Le guacamole fait maison.

Prochaine étape : le brunch avec les cousin(e)s !

Dilemma for a lunch with friends. Should we stick to american food or should we change for once? OK guys, let’s go on with american food ! We may do that to feel like we’re in the USA…  Anyway, my buddy Sandy suggested two addresses and J-Love immediately picked the PDG after he heard good things about it from Bageltom. And well, it’s a good surprise !  When we arrived, the “ground floor” was totally full, so they took us to the first level. We were alone there for about 15 minutes until a bunch of families came in to brunch. We ordered the 3 mini burgers to taste. Careful, they’re not full of stuff. Some ingredients like pickles and tomatoes are on your plate and you can put them in the plain burger for example. What I liked the most? The bread ! Amazing, for real + And I also appreciated the kindness and sense of humor of the owner + the homemade guacamole Next step : a brunch with my cousins !

Vous pensiez que NYC c’était fini? Et bah noooooon. J’ai retrouvé ces petites photos dans mon compact.

Les texans sont les meilleurs et c’est pas Walker Texas ranger aka Chuck Norris qui dira le contraire.

Pourquoi je vous dis ça ? Parce que j’ai découvert par hasard à New-York un nouveau restaurant créé par un mec qui s’est inspiré de la cuisine Texane de sa mère et de ses grand-mères.  La spécialité ? Le poulet frie. KFC et le colonnel peuvent aller se rhabiller.

En fait c’est en sortant du Madison Square Park après un tour au Shake schak (et le ventre déjà bien rempli) qu’on est tombé dessus. C’est la déco qui m’a interpellée. Des meubles 50′s (d’ailleurs allez voir le site : http://www.hillcountrychicken.com) des tapisseries fleuries et en vichy, son air neuf…
A tel point que j’y ai trainé Chou quelques jours plus tard, sans même savoir ce qu’on allait y manger.
Et là surprise ! Etant une habituée des buckets, je choisis des tenders. Ils sont énormes, enrobés d’une chapelure maison absolument délicieuse. Le poulet est super tendre, bref, un vrai plaisir pour les papilles.
Je valide aussi la tarte cow boy a base de noix de pecan et de pépites au chocolat.

You thought I was done with NYC? Well… Never ! I just found back those pictures on my compact camera. Texans are the best and it’s not walker texas ranger aka Chuck Norris who would say the contrary, right? Why am i saying this? Because I found out of the blue, while in NYC, a new restaurant created by some guy who was inspired by his mom and grandmas Texan-style and cooking. The speciality? Fried chicken. KFC and the colonel may get dressed (Does that makes sense in English? Maybe it’s a french expression. Well to make it short. that restaurant is wayyyy better than KFC!) Actually, it was on our way out of the Madison Square Garden, after the Shake Schak (and a full belly) that we came accross it. First, it was the decoration that attracted me. The 50′s furnitures (go see their website http://www.hillcountrychicken.com) and all the gingham and floral tapestries, and its new look… I really liked it all so I took J there a few days later without even knowing what they served. Surprise surprise ! I’m used to KFC buckets so I chosed tenders. They were huge and homemade breaded. Delicious. The chicken is tender… well, it’s a real pleasure for the tastebuds. I also valid the cow boy pie made with pecan and chocolat chips.

Ambiance Brooklynesque à la Maison Mère?  On se devait de tester ! Ce nouveau restaurant collé à l’hôtel Amour dans le 9éme arrondissement de Paris a ouvert ses portes il y a un mois à peine… Et il fait déjà beaucoup parlé de lui puisqu’on le voit partout dans la presse !

Quoi de mieux qu’un dej du dimanche entre amis? C’est parti ! Cheeseburger au bacon pour les garçons, bagel club dinde pour les filles avec des frites maison à l’ancienne succulentes. Ils laissent la peau des pommes de terre comme faisait mon papy à la campagne! Et puis un cheesecake (frais) à tomber par terre. Sérieusement, c’est le meilleur que j’ai jamais goûté jusqu’ici. ça y est, ça vous donne envie?

Je ne parle même pas de la déco façon loft de Brooklyn qui me rappelle ma ville de coeur. (NYC I miss you).

ça plait. D’ailleurs dimanche, c’était bondé. Je pense que la Maison Mère n’en est qu’à ses débuts… Qu’est-ce que vous faites encore là?

I heard there was some Brooklyn atmosphere at La Maison Mère? We needed to check it out ! That brand new restaurant, next to the Hotel Amour in Paris 9 opened its doors about a month ago… And everyone talks about it already ! So what is best than a sunday lunch with friends? Let’s go ! Bacon cheeseburger for the boys and turkey bagels for the girls, with french fries old-fashionned and homemade, DELICIOUS. They keep the skin of the potatoes just like my grandpa used to do in the country! And then a cheesecake (a fresh one) to die for ! Seriously, I think it’s the best cheesecake I’ve ever tasted so far. Does that make you want to go? I’m not even talking about the “Brooklyn loft” deco that reminds me the city of my heart (NYC I miss you). I’m telling you that restaurant is very cool and already full (it really was on sunday!). I think it’s just the beginning. So what are you waiting for??

Le nouveau monde de Walt Disney Studio (juste à côté de Disneyland) s’appelle Toy Story Playland et a ouvert ses portes en juillet dernier. Il fallait bien qu’ils se mettent un peu à jour. Si nous, on a été élevé à coup de princesses et de princes charmants, voire du Roi Lion et d’Aladdin… Les enfants d’aujourd’hui sont plutôt  ”Woody et Buzz” ou Cars, etc…
Voilà chose faite.

D’ailleurs, je dirais que Toy Story Playland est vraiment un endroit pour les tout petits. C’est coloré (ça fait du bien sous un ciel gris et -4°c), il y a Zig Zag un manège qui va vite sans aller vite (vous me suivez?).
Tout est démesuré avec ce grand Buzz à l’entrée, ces jouets géants… On a un peu l’impression d’être dans Chéri j’ai rétréci les gosses. Mais il y a quand même des attractions pour adultes comme les parachutes qui … chutent ou les voitures qui roulent très haut (blurps). Il parait que Disneyland Paris ne s’arrêtera pas là et qu’on aurait peut-être le droit l’année prochaine à un restaurant Ratatouille… !

The new Walt Disney Studio’s world (right beside Disneyland Paris) is called Toy Story Playland and had opened it’s doors back in July 2010. They just needed some update. We were born and raised with princesses and charming princes, maybe the Lion King and Aladdin… But the kids today are more into Woody and Buzz or Cars, etc… Done ! By the way I’d say that Toy Story Playland is a really cool place for little kids. It’s full of colors (which is great when they sky is grey and that it’s -4°c) and there’s Zig Zag, a ride that goes fast but slowly (you know what I mean?). Everything is enormous with this giant Buzz at the entrance or all the huge toys… you kinda feel like in Honey, I shrunk the kids. But there are also rides for grown ups like the parachutes that fall or the cars that drives too high (blurps). I heard Disneyland Paris won’t stop there and might open next year a Ratatouille restaurant !

C’est bientôt l’heure de rentrer à Paris et on a envie de se faire un vrai bon resto. Sur les conseils de copains de J, on va voir les cartes de quelques beaux resto sur Manhattan. Sauf qu’on entend parler français à tous les coins de rues. Ou espagnol ou italien. Mouais. Et puis on est pas venu à New-York pour manger de la soupe à l’oignon non plus. Nous, on veut manger New-Yorkais et être avec les New-Yorkais.

Et Là J me dit “Tu te souviens du restaurant devant lequel on est passé en se baladant à Dumbo?” Bah non, je ne m’en souviens pas. Mais bon, je lui fais confiance à mon J. On retourne donc à Brooklyn et là, en arrivant devant… effectivement je me souviens de ce joli restaurant au bord de L’East River. Le Bubby’s.
Bonus : tous les produits utilisés sont organiques (bio) et proviennent de petits agriculteurs de l’Etat de New-York. Exactement ce qu’on voulait ! Pour moi ce sera une citronnade maison parfumée à la framboise avec du poulet fermier, des haricots verts croquants et des frites de patates douces. Pour J, une bière américaine, des travers de porc et des onions rings. En dessert : ce sera milk-shake et pecan pie. Il parait que le Bubby’s est très connu pour ses tartes d’ailleurs.
Pourquoi vous allez noter cette adresse pour vos prochaines vacances à New-York?

1. Parce qu’il est dans un super beau quartier, Dumbo dont je parlais dans mon billet précédent.
2. Parce que aux States c’est OGM à gogo. Donc quand c’est spécifié Bio là bas, vous savez ce que vous avez dans l’assiette.
3. Parce que vous serez peut-être les seuls touristes (en tout cas pour l’instant) et que vous pourrez jouer à “vis ma vie d’américain”.
4. Parce que vos papilles n’en peuvent plus des fast-foods et réclament quelque chose de plus fin.
5. Parce que quand vous regarderez par la fenêtre, vous verrez les ponts et les buildings illuminés.
6. Parce qu’il y a une jolie libraire/concept store juste à côté pour faire des emplettes avant de manger.
7. Parce que derrière le bar, quand on va aux toilettes, il y a un photobooth à l’ancienne et que ça fera un super souvenir.
8. Parce que leurs citronnades bio maison sont à tomber.
9. Parce que ce n’est pas bondé. C’est un endroit idéal pour passer une soirée romantique en amoureux.
10. Parce que le service est génial et les serveurs adorable.

It’s almost time to say goodbye to the US and go back to Paris. J and I wanted to spend an evening in a good restaurant. We followed the advices of a some J’s buddies and looked at the menu of some beautiful restaurants in Manhattan. But we kept on hearing french people all around us. Or spanish or italian. Erm. And we didn’t come to NYC to eat onion soup either… We want to eat american and stay with americans. Then J said : Remember that restaurant we walked by in Dumbo?” Well no, I don’t ! But I do trust my sweet little J so we went back to Brooklyn and actually when we arrived, I did remember. This cute restaurant right beside the East River is called the Bubby’s. Bonus : All the food is organic and come from small farmers from NY state. It was just perfect ! I had some homemade raspberry lemonade, some chicken, green beans and sweet potatoes fries. J took an american beer, ribs and onion rings. What about dessert? Milk-Shake and pecan pie ! I heard the Bubby’s is well known for its pies by the way! So what should you put that address on your “to go” list for your next NYC vacations? 1. Because it’s in Dumbo (I told you yesterday about it). 2. Because it’s all organic and God knows what that means in the US. You know what you eat ! 3. Because you might be the only tourists there which is nice. 4. Because you cannot stand junk foods anymore and you need something GOOD. 5. Because when you’ll look through the windows, you’ll see the Manhattan bridge and all the buildings illuminated. 6. Because there’s a nice book/concept store on the right and you can buy a few stuff before dinner. 7. Because behind the bar, on the way to the toilets, there’s an old photobooth and it’d be a great memory. 8. Because their homemade lemonades are to die for ! 9. Because it’s not crowded. It’s the perfect place to spend a romantic diner with your love. 10. Because the service is great and the servers lovely.

D.U.M.B.O n’est pas un pauvre petit éléphant aux grandes oreilles. (Disney. Again. J’ai toujours trouvé ce dessin animé triste, non?!) D.U.M.B.O, c’est l’abréviation de “Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass” et c’est aussi un de mes quartiers chouchou de Brooklyn. J’adore la vue là bas sur l’East River et les buildings de Manhattan. On peut voir la beauté de New-York tout en étant à l’abris du bourdonnement de la foule. (Accro de Gossip Girl? Tu en as déjà vu des bouts. Mais siiii, c’est le quartier des Humphrey. Tu sais les pauvres Humphrey proprio d’un sublime loft).
Oui, parce que là bas on trouve plein de lofts moins cher qu’à Manhattan puisque que c’est un ancien quartier industriel entièrement rénové. On y trouve la population la plus branchée de New-York, des concepts stores et autre boutiques de design, la célèbre pizzeria Grimaldi (fréquentée par certains acteurs de New York Police Judiciaire. Le vrai little Italy est à Brooklyn) etc… et puis un Starbucks comme des milliers d’autres mais que mine de rien on a adoré. On a passé du temps hein au Starbucks. Parce qu’aux States le wifi y est gratuit, on en profitait un max. Et pour ma boisson qu’on ne trouve pas ici. Un thé glacé au fruit de la passion et à la limonade.

Dumbo isn’t a poor little elephant with big ears. (Disney. Again. I always thought that movie was so sad, wasn’t it?!) Dumbo is also the abbreviation for “Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass” and it’s also one of my fave area of Brookly. I love the view there on the East River and Manhattan’s buildings. You can see the beauty of New-York without being bothered by the hum of the crowd. (Addicted to Gossip Girl? You already saw some pieces of Dumbo. Yes you have ! It’s where the Humphrey used to live. You know the poor Humprey who own a beautiful loft !) Because there are lots of lofts there, cheaper than in Manhattan because it’s an old industrial area fully renovated. You can find there the most fashionable and hype population of New-York, concept stores and other design stores, the famous Grimaldi Pizzeria (some Law and Orders actors go there. The real Little Italy is in Brooklyn), etc… And some Starbucks Coffee, just like any other Starbucks but we loved spending time there. And hell we did because over there in the US, they have free wifi and we enjoyed it a lot. But also for my drink that we can’t find in french starbucks : the passion iced tea lemonade.

C’est quoi ce phare perdu et sorti de nul part devant le pont de Brooklyn? Drôle, non? Sur le coup, ça m’a fait penser au phare de Peter et Elliott. Oui, j’ai souvent des références Disney.
En fait c’est une boutique de glaces. Cornet ou pas, Milk Shake, Banana Split, au choix. Il faisait trop froid ce jour là, donc pas de glaces pour nous mais c’est une adresse à retenir. Faut dire que J est un peu friand de glaces (comme de bonbons ou de fast-foods, que des choses hyper diététique quoi).
Je n’ai pas pu m’empêcher de faire un tour à l’intérieur pour voir à quoi ça ressemblait et j’ai eu un coup de coeur pour les cornets rouge et bleu façon american flag. La prochaine fois qu’on y retourne, il fera chaud, ok?

What is that lighthouse lost and out of nowhere, in front of the Brooklyn Bridge? Funny, right? When I saw it, it made me think of Peter and Elliott’s lighthouse. Yes, I often have Disney references. Actually, it’s a ice cream store ! Cones or cup, Milk Shake, Banana Split, your choice. It was too cold that day, so no ice creams for us, but I thought it was a nice address to keep in mind. I must say that J is fond of ice creams (just as much as candies or junk food. Only diet stuff of course). I couldn’t help myself but go inside and see what it was like and I feel in love with the red and blue US flag cones ! Next time we go, it’s gonna be hot, alright?

- Pourquoi je ne parle que de miam en ce moment ? Parce que je raconte un peu nos vacances et qu’à vrai dire, elles n’étaient pas très intellectuelles. C’était plutôt à base de restau, sorties, shopping et balade. Des vacances quoi.

- Pourquoi je n’ai mis que des photos de muffins alors que ça s’appelle le Donut Pub? Euh parce que j’ai zappé de prendre des photos à l’intérieur et en ressortant je me suis dit que c’était une bonne adresse avec un très large choix (biiiien mieux que Dunkin Donut – trop crasseux). J’ai donc fait demi tour et en vitrine, il n’y avait que des muffins. Pourquoi ils ne mettent que des muffins en vitrine du Donut Pub aussi hein ! Quant aux donuts que J s’est acheté… comment dire?…  Je n’ai pas été assez rapide pour les prendre en photo.

Du sur mesure pour tous ceux qui ont un Homer Simspon qui sommeille en eux. D’oh !

- Why am i only talking about yummy lately? Because I’m telling you about my last vacations and well… it wasn’t an intellectual trip. Actually it was more about restaurants, hanging out, shopping, walking around. Vacations, right?
-Why did I only put pics of muffins when the place is called The Donut Pub? Erm, because I forgot to take pictures while we were inside. And when we started to walk away I decided it would be a nice address for Donut lovers with a huge choice (much better than crappy Dunkin Donut). So I walked back and all they had behind the window was muffins. And I’m wondering myself why the Donut Pub only puts muffins, trust me. As for the donuts J had bought… well, let’s just say I wasn’t fast enough. It’s tailor-made for anyone who has some Homer Simpson sleeping inside. D’oh!
